They learn how to design and make safely and start to use Information, Communication, Technology (ICT) as part of their designing and making. Through Design Technology the children at Woodlands children learn to think and intervene creatively and become creative problem solvers, as individuals and members of a team. They look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products and systems. They combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues and function. As they do so, they reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, its uses and effects.

01Food Technology

Instilling a love of cooking in pupils will also open a door to one of the great expressions of human creativity. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life.

The children in EYFS begin to develop a food vocabulary using taste, smell, texture and feel. They start to think about the need for a variety of foods in a diet.

Children in KS1 will learn to use the basic principles of a health and varied diet to prepare dishes. They will also understand where food comes from.
